Margot Robbie Drops First Photo From Set of Birds of Prey

There has been some really exciting news coming out of Margot Robbie’s female-driven DCEU project, Birds of Prey. There are some supremely talented women who will be driving this production from director Cathy Yan and screenwriter Christina Hodson to a cast that includes Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Jurnee Smollett-Bell, and Rosie Perez. We love what we’ve been hearing, but finally, we get to see something from the film too. Robbie shared a surprise snap as her vivacious character, Harley Quinn, this morning.

Back in costume signals that Robbie is back on set. Filming reportedly began earlier this month and the star appears to be diving back in. Robbie is spearheading the project to put DC comics’ fiercest lady anti-heroes in the spotlight. She will produce and also reprise her role as the psychologist fallen from grace. Robbie won hearts in 2016’s Suicide Squad as the mischievous bad girl and easily became the fan favorite. She had a reckless and athletic style and wasn’t concerned with coloring between the lines.

Miss me? ?HQ

Robbie’s sneak peek at Quinn in Birds of Prey looks a little more polished. Her trademark heart tattoo and red lip are back, but her eye shadow is decidedly understated. The photo doesn’t give us a clear view, but it looks like she’s swapped her pigtails for a pony with a blue accent.

Most notable, however, is the party vibe Harley is giving off. Trading in her classic baseball attire for pom-pom sleeves, a dog collar, and hot pink accents, HQ looks like a new woman. It is a little difficult to make out, but do we see the word “Bruce” on her dog tag? Seems like she might be teasing everyone’s favorite bat hero.

The full title of the film is Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) which seems to be supported by her new look. Harley is going her own way and it’s already awesome.

Robbie asks in the post, “Miss me?” signed HQ. Yes, Miss Quinn. We most certainly do.

Birds of Prey flies into theaters February 2020.
