The New Life Itself Trailer from the This is Us Creator Will Destroy You

In his never-ending quest to emotionally destroy us, Dan Fogelman has written and directed a new film and our tear ducts cannot. The teaser for Life Itself is out today and we have no idea what it’s about, but we bawled.

Fogelman is the man responsible for ripping us apart weekly with This is Us, and he’s back with another multi-generational story of love, family, and relationships. During last night’s season finale, we saw the first look at Life Itself. Oscar Isaac (Star Wars: The Last Jedi) and Olivia Wilde (Tron) seem to be the centerpiece of an exceptionally dramatic romance. She is clearly pregnant at one point, so things must go well for a while. But there’s also a little girl in the back of a car that has flying glass which is never, ever, ever good. The supporting cast is incredible with Mandy Patinkin, Annette Bening, Antonio Banderas and Olivia Cooke.

Fogelman has an unearthly ability to infuse meaning into mundane moments and it looks like Life Itself is no different. “Strange to think about how a completely random moment could shape my entire life,” Isaac’s character says. What is the moment? Is it good or bad? We need to make an informed decision here before we invest our lives in this emotional wood chipper. Would someone please turn off that Band of Horses song so we can get through the work day without crying?

Of course, we cannot wait to subject ourselves Fogelman’s latest cathartic work. It looks like it could be the new Love, Actually where every facet of human emotion is covered in an interconnected story from New York to Spain.

Stock up on those tissues. Life Itself hits theaters September 21.
