Tom Cruise Ups the Ante (Again) in Sizzling First Mission: Impossible-Fallout Trailer

It looks like super spy Ethan Hunt is back at it and better than ever. Played by the ageless Tom Cruise and involving some of the film industry’s most audacious stunts,  the next chapter of the franchise was unveiled with the first trailer for Mission: Impossible-Fallout, which aired last night during the Super Bowl. Previously, fans got to see a glimpse of some of the stunts they could expect from the film when Paramount dropped a new poster last week, and when Ethan Hunt himself posted a photo on his Instagram. The two and a half minute trailer supports the idea that this may be the most stunt-filled and action packed film in the franchise, which is saying something.

The trailer opens with an unknown voice saying the iconic line, “You’re mission, should you choose to accept it,” and from there we’re treated to a whirlwind of insane stunts and a glimpse of what villainy Ethan is up against this time around. In a twist of events Alec Baldwin, who in Rogue Nation seemed to be working against Hunt, is shown defending him from the flawless Angela Bassett. Rebecca Ferguson makes a triumphant return as Ilsa Faust, but it looks like once again she and Ethan are against one another; Faust is shown shooting at Ethan’s car as he, after only slight hesitation, attempts to run her over.

The man of steel himself, Henry Cavill, is also seen in the trailer, beard and all, and he isn’t backing down from a fight. Car chases, explosions and even the harrowing image of Ethan swinging from a helicopter thousands of feet in the air hint that this franchise, which began in 1996, is somehow getting better.

Mission: Impossible-Fallout will be released in theaters July 27.
