It’s the Fight of the Century in This New Black Panther Spot

On Wednesday we shared this Black Panther spot that solved one major puzzle from the trailer (turns out, T’Challa’s Black Panther suit is even more powerful than we thought). Now, a new TV spot titled “War” gives us a thrilling glimpse at the central fight in the film, between Chadwick Boseman’s Wakandan king T’Challa, better known as Black Panther, and Michael B. Jordan’s Erik Killmonger, who ends up with a suit of his own.

“I want your weapons. Your secrets. It’s all mine now.” – Erik Killmonger

This matchup is truly between two heavyweights, both from a character standpoint and from an actor one. Jordan has been mesmerizing in two Ryan Coogler films already—the heartbreaking Fruitvale Station, which put Coogler on the map, and as Apollo Creed’s son in Creed. Boseman’s career has been equally impressive, taking on the impossible burden of playing both Jackie Robinson in 42 and James Brown in Get on Up and nailing both. Watching these two go toe-to-toe in Black Panther will be one of the chief pleasures of the film. Plus, so much rests on a comic book film’s villain, and in Jordan, Coogler has selected an actor he loves to work with, and one whose natural charisma and gravitas will play well against the dignity and power of Boseman’s T’Challa, which was on display and then some in his first Marvel appearance, Captain America: Civil War.

Boseman and Jordan are joined by a sensational cast, including Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker, and Andy Serkis. The soundtrack is by none other than Kendrick Lamar.

Here’s your official synopsis:

Marvel Studios’ Black Panther follows T’Challa who, after the death of his father, the King of Wakanda, returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation to succeed to the throne and take his rightful place as king. But when a powerful old enemy reappears, T’Challa’s mettle as king—and Black Panther—is tested when he is drawn into a formidable conflict that puts the fate of Wakanda and the entire world at risk. Faced with treachery and danger, the young king must rally his allies and release the full power of Black Panther to defeat his foes and secure the safety of his people and their way of life.

Black Panther arrives in theaters on February 16
