Comic-Con 2017: Marvel’s The Defenders Pilot—What we Know

Marvel’s The Defenders producer Jeph Loeb gave the Hall H crowd a gift at Comic-Con; he screened the first episode of Marvel and Netflix’s superhero crossover team-up series The Defenders. Here’s brief run down of some what was gleaned at the screening, including the second trailer.

What We Know:

Elektra Natchios (Elodie Young) is back. Yes, she was apparently dead at the end of Daredevil season 2, but her character is beloved and she’s going to be an important part of the series, albeit in a different way.

Danny Rand/Iron fist (Finn Jones) is hunting for The Hand. He’s not in a good way, old Iron Fist, as he’s besieged by nightmares over all the death’s he’s witnessed and played a part in. When the Iron Fist finally gets close to a contact who can lead him to The Hand, the man dies in front of them in the show’s opening sequence.

Collen Wing (Jessica Henwick) returns, still brooding over the events in Iron Fist that left her without her family and her dojo.

Alexandra (Sigourney Weaver) is dying. Her red blood count is plummeting, and there seems to be nothing she can do to save herself. Her connections with Elektra is unique, and with time running out, Alexandra has a plan she wants set into motion immediately, what that plan is, we’re still not sure.

The Defenders will not have a superhero HQ, like, say, The Avengers do. Instead they’ll be doing their plotting and planning at various points in the city, including bars. That sounds like fun. Here’s the official synopsis:

Marvel’s The Defenders follows Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and Iron Fist (Finn Jones). A quartet of singular heroes with one common goal – to save New York City. This is the story of four solitary figures, burdened with their own personal challenges, who realize they just might be stronger when teamed together.

All eight episodes of Marvel’s The Defenders will be available on Netflix on August 18, 2017.
