Star-lord Meets his Dad in new Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 Trailer

The new trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 premiered on Jimmy Kimmel Live! last night, giving us the moment we’ve been waiting for—Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) and his dear old dad (Kurt Russell) meeting face-to-face. Granted, the trailer also has a ton of space fighting, quips, nods to family, Nebula-v-Gamora action, and, most importantly…Baby Groot.

Russell plays one of the weirder characters to grace any Marvel film (or comic, for that matter); Ego the Living Planet. Granted, you meet Ego here in human bodily form, but make no mistake, the character is a sentient planet. Director James Gunn is turning his eye towards the father-son relationship this time around (you’ll remember in the original, Peter was snatched up by Yondu (Michael Rooker) as a child, after visiting his mother on her deathbed.) The whole gang is back, including Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax (Dave Bautista), Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper), Baby Groot (Vin Diesel), and Nebula (Karen Gillan). As Ego, Russell is one a bunch of new cast members, including Mantis (Pom Klementieff) and Ayesha (Elizabeth Debicki), who plays your main villain.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 lands in theaters May 5.
