Real Life Genius on Cosmic Inspiration in new Hidden Figures Promo

Hidden Figures, the upcoming biographical drama from 20th Century Fox, has unveiled a video segment called Modern Figures. In a video interview, Tracy Drain, a Systems Engineer for NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, says “I used to spend nights lying awake trying to imagine the stars…to try and feel your place in the universe.” She recalls the struggles of being a woman and person of color in the science and mathematics industry, and how women in her life influenced her to strive for success.

The film, directed by Theodore Melfi, tells the true story of Katherine G. Johnson (Taraji P. Henson), Dorothy Vaughan (Octavia Spencer) and Mary Jackson (Janelle Monáe): genius African-American women who transcended gender and race boundaries to become the intelligence behind one of NASA’s greatest accomplishments: launching American astronaut John Glenn into a complete orbit of the Earth. Drain reflects on the story, commenting “It’s clear to me that their work made it possible to continue bringing women and people of color into these kinds of fields.”

The video is truly inspirational and shows that greatness in the face of adversity reflects in the dreams of generations to come. Catch Hidden Figures in theaters on January 6, 2017.
