Ben Affleck Reveals Title of his Stand-Alone Batman Film

As Ben Affleck was doing his promotional tour for The Accountant, he was asked by the Associated Press if he had a title yet for his stand-alone Batman film, and lo and behold, he revealed it! Drum roll please…

The Batman has some things going for it. First, it's what Cillian Murphy's Scarecrow calls him in Chirstopher Nolan's reboot, Batman Begins.

Second, it has a nice ring to it. It's short and sweet, and fittingly less poetic than The Dark Knight, as Affleck's version of the caped crusader is decidedly blunter. Third, it's got a dismissive quality to it, considering The Batman is what villains and Gothamites who don't like him have typically called him. Throwing a definite article in front of Batman has the effect of making Batman seem sort of ridiculous or insane, and Batman being misunderstood has long been one of the greatest qualities to his story. He dwells in the dark, he's a vigilante, he has no superpowers, he dresses up like a bat. He's insane. He's the Batman!

Granted, Affleck said it could change, but our guess is if people react positively to it, The Batman will be hitting a theater near you.
