Can you Figure out Who Negan Killed in new The Walking Dead Teaser

The Walking Dead premieres in a little more than a month, on October 23, and with the internet still aflame about the controversial ending to season six, every new piece of footage AMC drops is met with intense scrutiny and a CSI-level amount of analysis. Is there a clue to who Negan's victim was in the latest teaser? Let's find out.

You can watch the new teaser here. Once you're done, return here for a breakdown.

Welcome back. So as you saw, the teaser's main attraction is Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) himself and the rules he demands everyone live by. Naturally, those rules are meant to keep him in power. All anybody cares about right now, however, is who Negan killed with his spiked bat, Lucille, in the season six finale.

There are a few people we know are absolutely alive (for now) because they weren't at Negan's little late night meet-and-greet. One of them is Morgan (Lennie James), whom we interviewed last week. One of the things James told us was the actors who were involved in that scene bonded…over just how brutal it was to go through. We also know Morgan's main antagonist (in human form, that is), Carol (Melissa McBride) is safe, as is Tara (Alanna Masterson) and Dwight (Austin Amelio.) Everyone else who was there—that's Rick (Andrew Lincoln), Carl (Chandler Riggs) Daryl (Norman Reedus), Michonne (Danai Gurira), Maggie (Lauren Cohen), Glenn (Steven Yeun), Rosita (Christian Serratos), Aaron (Ross Marquand), Sasha (Sonequa Martin), Eugene (Josh McDermitt) and Abraham (Michael Cudlitz)—are fair game.

Potential spoilers ahead.

What we know for sure (sort of); Carl and Rick are both probably okay considering Negan said "Anybody moves, anybody says anything, cut the boy's other eye out and feed it to his father." If you trust that Negan wasn't pulling a fast one on Rick, that likely means the Grimes men will live to see another (awful) day. We can also reasonably assume that all of this controversy over who Negan took out won't end with the victim being someone relatively minor (showrunner Scott Gimple has promised that the season seven premiere is going to deliver a legitimate tragedy), so that means Rosita, Sasha, Eugene and Aaron are all likely okay. And then there's Abraham. Michael Cudlitz essentially guaranteed his safety to PopSugar, telling them that we'd be seeing a world in which Negan and Abraham have to live side-by-side. Then again, this could definitely be a ploy, and Abraham, a fan-favorite, could be the one Negan tapped out, so to speak.

It's probably not Michonne: Danai Gurira is going to be in Ryan Coogler's Black Panther film, so you could speculate that her absence could also speak to her character being killed off on the show, but, we're not buying it.

It could follow the comics: Meaning there goes Glenn.

What we're afraid happened: If there's one death that would be the most appalling of all, it would be Maggie's. She's pregnant, she's beloved by fans, and she's already been through so much (just in season six's finale alone!). It would be very, very difficult to bear Maggie being on the receiving end of Lucille. Yet, with Lennie James telling us how awful filming that scene was for the actors, and how brutal of a premiere we're all in for, it starts to seem like she's the victim. "When I’ve met the fans, I’ve made them promise me that none of them will watch the first episode on their own," James told us. "They need to watch with someone next to them that they can reach out and hold onto because they’re going to need each other. I’m not revealing anything, it’s just going to be tricky. It was tricky and painful to film, both physically and emotionally.

What's more, Lauren Cohan hasn't been seen much on the Atlanta set. This really could be brutal—although AMC has worked very hard to keep us guessing, including dropping a clue that there might be two victims to sort through, we're starting to feel like it's Maggie. We'll find out on October 23, and whatever the reveal we're pretty sure we're going to be watching it with someone else, per James' suggestion.
