Disney Unveils new Titles for Next two Avenger Films

Up until now, you've thought of the upcoming Avenger films from directors Joe and Anthony Russo as Avengers: Infinity War Part I and Part II. Well, Disney announced on Friday that the Marvel Studios sequel will simply be titled Avengers: Infinity War. This means that the followup film will have a different title completely. It's now being referred to as the untitled Avengers movie. Infinity War will come out on May 4, 2018, and the currently untitled second film will be released on May 3, 2019.

Anthony Russo told Uproxx that the shared subtitle the two films had been thought to have was "misleading." Joe Russo said, "The two movies are two very different movies. The intention is we will change it, we just haven't come up with the [final] titles yet. But, yes, we will change it. That is a scoop: we will retitle them."

The name Infinity War comes from a legendary 1992 comic book series in which Marvel heroes found themselves joining together to fight themselves. A sinister cosmic entity called the Magus created evil dopplegangers of the heroes in order to control the Infinity Gauntlet—this was what viewers saw at the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron, when Thanos (Josh Brolin) slipped on his huge glove and said, "Fine. I'll do it myself." What does the Infinity Gauntlet do? When combined with the Infinity Stones, it gives the person who wields immense, godlike power.

So your Infinity War is coming, and after that, who knows.
