How They Built the Props for Star Wars: The Force Awakens

One of the things that has always made Star Wars such a delight is the intense care that went into the design of the franchise's many iconic props. It's not just that they're cool (they are), but that they looked like objects that have been in use for years or more. As far back as A New Hopethe Star Wars films have always made sure the things the characters wear and use look like they've been worn and used. It seems simple enough, but to actually create something brand new and age it is hard work. There's the obvious stuff, like lightsabers, blasters and Darth's helmet, and then there's the tiny details that make the Star Wars galaxy so immersive.

For The Force Awakens, J.J. Abrams was adamant about making sure the new chapter looked and felt as lived in as the original trilogy he loved so much. This new featurette shows how the craftesmen and women got a prop from design to delivery in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
