10 Cloverfield Lane Hides Subliminal Images in New Trailer

For those of you who saw Deadpool over President's Day weekend, you also got a chance to see the new trailer for 10 Cloverfield Lane, the horror/thriller/sci-fi romp by J.J. Abrams production company Bad Robot. Now the film was already shrouded in secrecy, so the news emerging from the latest trailer is, if not surprising, at least interesting. According to ScreenCrush, right after the film's title there's a split-second flash of an image.

Screencrush reports that there were "five separate 10 Cloverfield Lane trailers each sent to the four major movie chains — AMC, Regal, Cinemark and Carmike — plus one for all other theaters. The trailers were all exactly the same except for one frame, which flashed right at the end. Likely imperceptible to the human eye, you can only make out what these images are by freeze-framing them and because this is the internet, that is exactly what has happened." Check out those images here.

Now that you've seen them, we're wondering if you can crack the code. What could the following images and their corresponding numbers possibly mean? An illustration of a man falling in water (holding…what?) with a caption that reads "Figure 306", a tag on a Navy survival bag with the numbers "012", an illustration of a monkey smoking a cigar with a "9" on each shoulder, a team photo of an old football team (with their eyes blacked out) and the jersey number "68" clearly visible, and nautical-themed magazine with the numbers "5742" written on it.

10 Cloverfield Lane is directed by Dan Trachtenberg and stars John Goodman, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and John Gallagher Jr. The plot details are this; a young woman (Winstead) wakes up from a brutal car accident in an underground bunker, watched over by a man (Goodman) who claims that he saved her not just from the wreck, but from a chemical attack that has made the outside world toxic. She's trapped there with him. Here's the spot they ran during the Super Bowl.
