Watch a Brutal Bear Attack inThe Revenant’s New Trailer

At 50 seconds into The Revenant's new trailer, you see the moment that changes everything for trapper Hugh Glass (Leonardo DiCaprio). Glass and his fellow trappers, including John Fitzgerald (Tom Hardy) and Jim Bridger (Will Poulter), are moving through the forest when a huge grizzly attacks, crashing atop Glass. The moment is thrilling, terrifying, and very realistic. Grievously wounded and therefore a burden, Fitzgerald decides to bury Glass alive rather than care for him until he's healed. Of course Glass doesn't die, and from this moment on the story turns into one of revenge. Based on actual events, the saga of trapper Hugh Glass is an intriguing next step for one of the best director/cinematographer teams currently working today.

That team is cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki and director Alejandro González Iñárritu. In the past nine years, they have collaborated on three of the most ambitiously shot and beautifully executed films made— last year's Birdman, 2013's Gravity and 2006's Children of Men.  Applying everything they've learned in these films to a revenge tale set in the frontier lands of 19th century feels like another winner.

Along with the bear attack, check out what happens at the 2:18 mark.
